Marriage (Spouse) Visa in Thailand
It’s quite common for foreigners who fall in love with a Thai national to eventually seek a Thai Marriage Visa. This visa allows a foreign spouse to live in Thailand for an extended period. The Thai Marriage Visa is a type of Non-Immigrant O Visa that grants the holder permission to stay in Thailand for one year, and it can be renewed annually as long as the marriage remains valid and the necessary requirements are met.
Requirements for a Thai Marriage Visa:
To obtain a Thai Marriage Visa, you’ll need to meet several specific criteria:
1. Marriage Certificate:
- You must provide an official Thai marriage certificate (Kor Ror 2) and a certified copy of it (Kor Ror 3). If the marriage took place outside Thailand, the marriage certificate must be registered with the Thai authorities.
2. Financial Requirements: You must meet one of the following financial requirements:
- Bank Account: A Thai bank account with at least 400,000 THB deposited for at least 2 months before the visa application.
3. Supporting Documents:
- Passport: A copy of your passport, including all relevant pages such as the visa and entry stamp.
- Spouse's ID: A copy of your Thai spouse’s ID card.
- Spouse's House Registration: A copy of your Thai spouse's house registration document (Tabien Baan).
- Proof of Address: This can be a rental agreement, utility bill, or any other official document that con firms your address in Thailand.
4. Photos:
- You may be required to submit photos showing you and your spouse living together, as well as a photo of you with your Thai spouse’s family.
Application Process:
1. Apply for a Non-Immigrant O Visa:
- If you are outside Thailand, you can apply for a Non-Immigrant O Visa at a Thai embassy or consulate in your home country or another country.
- If you are already in Thailand on a different visa type, you can apply for a change of visa type to a Non-Immigrant O Visa at the Thai Immigration Office.
2. Convert to Marriage Visa:
- After you have the Non-Immigrant O Visa, you can apply for the one-year extension based on marriage at your local Immigration Office.
3. Application Fee: We will check with the local immigration office upon application
Renewal of Marriage Visa:
- The Marriage Visa is valid for one year and can be renewed annually, provided that the marriage and financial requirements are still met.
Re-entry Permit:
- If you plan to leave Thailand during the validity of your Marriage Visa, you will need to apply for a re-entry permit to keep your visa valid.
90-Day Reporting:
- Just like with the Retirement Visa, you must report your current address to the Thai Immigration Office every 90 days.
Additional Notes:
- Work Permit: If you wish to work in Thailand, a work permit is required in addition to the Marriage Visa.
