Requirements for Car/Motorbike Registration:
- Thai Driving License or International Driving Permit
-A valid Thai driving license or an international driving permit is generally required to register a vehicle in Thailand. - Passport and Visa
-A valid passport with a visa that allows for a long stay (e.g., Non-Immigrant B, O, or ED Visa) is needed. A Tourist Visa is usually not sufficient. - Thai Residence Certificate or Work Permit
-Proof of address in Thailand is required, typically a Thai Residence Certificate or a Work Permit. - Vehicle Insurance
-Compulsory Third-Party Liability Insurance (CTPL) must be obtained before registration. - Vehicle Purchase Documentation
-You need to provide the vehicle's sales contract, receipt, and sometimes the customs clearance if the vehicle is imported.
Steps to Register a Car or Motorbike:
- Obtain the Necessary Documents:
-Ensure all required documents are ready, including proof of address, driving license, passport, and vehicle insurance. - Visit the Department of Land Transport (DLT):
-Car and motorbike registration is done at the local Department of Land Transport (DLT) office. You will need to visit the office corresponding to the province where you reside. - Submit the Documents
-Submit all the documents to the DLT staff for verification and processing. They will inspect the vehicle for roadworthiness (Not applicable if new car) - Receive the Vehicle Registration Book and License Plates:
- Once approved, you will receive the vehicle registration book (Green Book for motorcycles and Blue Book for cars), and license plates will be issued. - Fees:
- The registration fees vary depending on the type and size of the vehicle but usually range between 1,000 and 3,000 THB for motorbikes and cars.
